* RYA DAY SKIPPER is a perfect qualification if you’re buying a
boat, wanting to charter, or preparing for your RYA Yachtmaster certificate, or cruising the Queensland coast inside the Great Barrier Reef. * You gain a world recognised qualification, while learning how to be safe, confident and fast. * The RYA Day Skipper certificate automatically qualifies you for your International Certificate of Confidance.(ICC). This is the requirement of yacht charter companies worldwide. * Your sessions are recorded for your exclusive use & revision * Classes are either before work, from 0500 to 0730, or after work in the afternoon from 1700 to 1930. * Your RYA Day Skipper qualification is a comprehensive introduction to cruising. It is popular with experienced sailors & beginners & is perfect preparation for RYA Yachtmaster. * You receive a presentation of lights & buoyage, (a part of the IRPCS), to introduce you to night cruising, plus a more comprehensive introduction to the IRPCS. * With Yachting Directions, you receive ongoing benefits by our periodically updated developments in technology, electronic navigation aids, & with developments in safety & seamanship. * You will receive 1 year’s mentorship to bring your goals to fruition. Eg: A boat purchase, or chartering, or your ultimate goal of RYA Yachtmaster. * You enjoy personalised classes, plus inclusion in our WhatsApp groups for ongoing learning and mile-building trips with our boat owners. Your class size is small, typically 4 - 8 * Course topics include: • The essentials of Coastal Navigation & Pilotage • The basics of Seamanship • Tides • Chartwork • Electronic Charts • Position fixing • Plotting a course to steer • Weather forecasting, Meteorology • Collision Regulations • Construction, parts and equipment of a cruising boat • Rigging: standing and running • Emergency and Safety procedures including distress calls, use of flares, safety harnesses, lifejackets and life-rafts • Berthing: slip departure and return • Sailing communication • Anchoring and Mooring. * The theory course is taught, with a recommended minimum 40 hours of tuition, supplemented with at least this amount of time in practice exercises for homework. * Your next RYA Day Skipper course is 18 November to 20 December. This is taught over 5 consecutive weeks. Lessons occur early morning from 05:00hrs to 07:30hrs, or, evenings from 17:00hrs to 19:30hrs. * Pre-requisites: None - * Course includes two exam papers, each 1.5 hours * NB. Additional self-study time of approximately 6 hours per week during course is recommended. We ask that you be particularly disciplined with a commitment to time each day or week. |
