What to expect:
This is an intense, immersive learning experience designed as the best preparation for the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore practical exam.
Along the way, you’ll experience a wide variety of sailing conditions, navigational challenges, coastal pilotage, and offshore passage-making. Every part of the RYA Yachtmaster syllabus will be referenced with real-life situations and learning opportunities. These include Navigation (both traditional and electronic), sail handling, sail trim, rig tuning, preparing for emergency situations such as MOB, Abandon ship, Fire, Sinking, and Preparing for Heavy Weather,. You will gain huge insight into weather analysis, weather routing, tidal routing, managing ocean currents, managing tidal heights, and onboard crew management. Managing watch systems, record keeping, shore contacts, log entries and understanding the rational behind evolutions on board ship will all be demonstrated and practiced. You will also visit Islands only reached by boats, beautiful bays and anchorages most nights, dolphins, turtles, flying fish, even late whales (stragglers returning to Antarctica), long still-water stretches and unforgettable offshore sailing.

The season:
This time of year it is warmer. We can expect following winds for the entire Queensland Coast. In NSW it is common for a sea breeze to develop by late morning and and back into the north and continue into the evening. It really is the best time to travel south. Occasionally we can also expect southerly changes on the NSW coast which may delay progress south by a day or two.
The Boat:
Nautitech Open 40 (two helm stations at the transom are in the “open”).

Day 2. Thomas Island to Brampton Island via Goldsmith Is. 10 November
Day 3. Brampton Is to Middle Percy, via St Bees and Keswick Islands. 11 November
Day 4. Middle Percy Island. 12 November
Day 5. Middle Percy Is to Island Head Creek or Pearl Bay. 13 November
Day 6. To Yeppoon / Great Keppel Island.14 November
Day 7. To Pancake Creek. 15 November
Day 8. Bundaberg 16 November
Day 9. Urangan and Tin Can Bay Day. 17 November
