Frequently asked questions

How does Syndication work?

Boating syndication means that your costs are shared so that you receive the same enjoyment and pleasure for a fraction of the costs. This extends from the cost of the boat to the ongoing costs of maintenance, cleaning, insurance, logistics such as delivery to exotic cruising grounds, and mooring at your home port

Whether your dream is cruising in a performance luxury catamaran, one-design race boats, or a lunch launch, Yachting Directions share ownership packages are your answer.

Luxury performance catamarans.

At Yachting Directions, we have identified the most iconic brand and selected the most appropriate models so that you can confidently bring your cruising aspirations to fruition without losing connection to your life responsibilities of business, family and home. With Yachting Directions you can choose either 100%, 50% or 25% ownership, while we take care of your asset.

You own your share in the boat. So, when you buy into a syndicate, you own 50% (or if you prefer, 25% of the boat). This gives you to 50% of the boat's available time on the water. We need to reserve some time during the year for regular maintenance and other than that you use your yacht in exotic locations in winter and at home in summer. We provide an online calendar to make sure you are on your yacht for the days or weeks that you want - or even longer.

This arrangement is structured so that you enjoy the same amount of time on your yacht  as you would if the yacht was solely owned by you, but at a small fraction of the cost. This is why we are the only share ownership business that offers such low share numbers. It is important to us that you receive all the enjoyment of owning outright, reflected in the number of days in your use, while mitigating all costs.

How does my yacht go from my home port to my dream cruising location?

Let us handle the planning. Please join our experienced RYA Yachtmasters and crew for these wonderfully quick journeys, whether it is a Coastal passage to the Whitsundays or open ocean to Vanuatu, Fiji, New Caledonia or PNG. Your performance yacht is relocated to new dream cruising grounds, quickly, during winter months for warm weather adventures. You are encouraged to join the passage to discover new anchorages and to experience your yacht's capabilities and extraordinary performance. Once in the selected location, you are now enjoying the dream of cruising in your own boat in places that few can reach.

You also may prefer to have one (or more) of our experienced RYA Yachtmasters take over and assume that responsibility.

What are the outgoings and when do they occur? Your costs are clearly outlined from the beginning.

Are there any hidden costs? Everything is included, bar any insurance excess payments that may be incurred following a claim. This is met by the share owner responsible.

There are stand-by use fees, and contingency fund top ups and the cost of fuel used. However, being a high performance yacht you can be sure that you will want to maximise the use of your sails to minimise the time of the passage making.

Supply of Essentials: You are provided with essentials such as linen, towels, wet weather gear, safety gear, and more, ensuring a comfortable, convenient and safe experience on board.

How long is the ownership agreement for?

The syndicate agreement runs for four years. After 4 years, all shares in your boat are sold, and the net proceeds are then returned to each owner according to the equity they hold.

This has the benefit of giving you the best resale value. It also occurs before maintenance costs may start to increase.

Owners stay with us and move on to a new yacht or upgrade to a larger model.

Fair Share of Proceeds: At the end of the ownership term, the net proceeds from the sale are divided evenly among the owners, without any exit fees.

Resale Option: You have the flexibility to sell your share at any time during the syndication term, offering a potential exit strategy if needed.

What if I want to sell my share?

At any time, you may sell your share. We market your share for you, according to the market value at the time. We maintain a constant monitoring of market conditions and are able to inform you of the price you can expect.

The new owner will have to satisfy certain conditions such as completing the RYA Day Skipper or Yachtmaster course. These conditions protect the remaining owners.

Yachting DIrections will broker the sale of your share for you for a 5% (+ GST) of the sale price achieved.

Your best price for your share is our aim, against a background of market forces and natural depreciation within that field. We mitigate this depreciation by a) choosing a premium brand in McConaghy and b) implementing world’s best practice in maintenance and servicing.

What if I require a qualified skipper? Yachting Directions trains qualified accredited skippers who are obtaining jobs around the world. These are mostly past students who are now RYA Yachtmasters with decades of experience themselves. but this also includes a wealth of experience such as Brien Daniel operated the first bareboat charter company in Vanuatu and the Whitsundays in the 1980's.

What if I need support in the middle of the night? We are available 24/7. Whether you’re inexperienced, and want some advice before you head out or you're a skilled skipper, our assistance line is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, all year long.

Why Yachting Directions: Experience. Brien Daniel has well over 4 decades operating charter companies around the world His experience includes yacht design, boat-building, project management, commissioning, sail-training, event management and logistics.

Our staff on the water are all RYA trained Yachtmasters. Yachting Directions boat share structure is designed to ensure that your asset - your boat - is always unencumbered and owned by its owners. Yachting Directions finances and structures the initial syndication between the owners but, once the syndicate is formed, we step back to become managers on your behalf. You own the boat. Should anything happen to Yachting Directions, you continue to own the boat.

Always, you will find it is much more cost-effective to own a portion of a vessel than an entire vessel. How many times have you driven past a marina and seen all those boats sitting there doing nothing? All that money tied up in an unused asset.

You get to own the best in the world, for much less cost.
